The Epistle. 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain. For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them—though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so you have come to believe.

HERMANOS: Ahora, quiero que se acuerden del evangelio que les he predicado. Éste es el evangelio que ustedes aceptaron, y en el cual están firmes. También por medio de este evangelio se salvarán, si se mantienen firmes en él, tal como yo se lo anuncié; de lo contrario, habrán creído en vano. En primer lugar les he enseñado la misma tradición que yo recibí, a saber, que Cristo murió por nuestros pecados, según las Escrituras; que lo sepultaron y que resucitó al tercer día, también según las Escrituras; y que se apareció a Cefas (Pedro), y luego a los doce. Después se apareció a más de quinientos hermanos a la vez, la mayoría de los cuales vive todavía, aunque algunos ya han muerto. Después se apareció a Santiago, y luego a todos los apóstoles. Por último se me apareció también a mí, que soy como un niño nacido anormalmente. Pues yo soy el menos importante de los apóstoles, y ni siquiera merezco llamarme apóstol, porque perseguí a la iglesia de Dios. Pero soy lo que soy porque Dios fue bueno conmigo; y su bondad para conmigo no ha resultado en vano. Al contrario, he trabajado más que todos ellos; aunque no he sido yo, sino Dios, que en su bondad me ha ayudado. Lo que importa es que, tanto yo como ellos, esto es lo que hemos predicado, y esto es lo que ustedes han creído.

The Gospel. St. Luke xviii. 9.

JESUS spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

El Santo Evangelio San Lucas 18:9-14.

EN aquel tiempo: Jesús contó esta otra parábola para algunos que, seguros de sí mismos por considerarse justos, despreciaban a los demás: Dos hombres fueron al templo a orar: el uno era fariseo, y el otro era uno de esos que cobran impuestos para Roma. El fariseo, de pie, oraba así: “Oh Dios, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás, que son ladrones, malvados y adúlteros, ni como ese cobrador de impuestos. Yo ayuno dos veces a la semana y te doy la décima parte de todo lo que gano.” Pero el cobrador de impuestos se quedó a cierta distancia, y ni siquiera se atrevía a levantar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho y decía: “¡Oh Dios, ten compasión de mí, que soy pecador!” Les digo que este cobrador de impuestos volvió a su casa ya justo, pero el fariseo no. Porque el que a sí mismo se engrandece, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será engrandecido.

The Epistle. 1 Corinthians xii. 1.

CONCERNING spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to an other the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

La Epístola 1 Corintios 12:1-11.

HERMANOS: quiero que ustedes sepan algo respecto a los dones espirituales. Ustedes saben que cuando todavía no eran creyentes se dejaban arrastrar ciegamente tras los ídolos mudos. Por eso, ahora quiero que sepan que nadie puede decir: «¡Maldito sea Jesús!», si está hablando por el poder del Espíritu de Dios. Y tampoco puede decir nadie: «¡Jesús es Señor!», si no está hablando por el poder del Espíritu Santo. Hay en la iglesia diferentes dones, pero el que los concede es un mismo Espíritu. Hay diferentes maneras de servir, pero todas por encargo de un mismo Señor. Y hay diferentes manifestaciones de poder, pero es un mismo Dios, que, con su poder, lo hace todo en todos. Dios da a cada uno alguna prueba de la presencia del Espíritu, para provecho de todos. Por medio del Espíritu, a unos les concede que hablen con sabiduría; y a otros, por el mismo Espíritu, les concede que hablen con profundo conocimiento. Unos reciben fe por medio del mismo Espíritu, y otros reciben el don de curar enfermos. Unos reciben poder para hacer milagros, y otros tienen el don de profecía. A unos, Dios les da la capacidad de distinguir entre los espíritus falsos y el Espíritu verdadero, y a otros la capacidad de hablar en lenguas; y todavía a otros les da la capacidad de interpretar lo que se ha dicho en esas lenguas. Pero todas estas cosas las hace con su poder el único y mismo Espíritu, dando a cada persona lo que a él mejor le parece.

The Gospel. St. Luke xix. 41.

AND when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, and shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. And he taught daily in the temple.

EN aquel tiempo: Cuando llegó cerca de Jerusalén, al ver la ciudad, Jesús lloró por ella, diciendo: «¡Si en este día tú también entendieras lo que puede darte paz! Pero ahora eso te está escondido y no puedes verlo. Pues van a venir para ti días malos, en que tus enemigos harán un muro a tu alrededor, y te rodearán y atacarán por todos lados, y te destruirán por completo. Matarán a tus habitantes, y no dejarán en ti ni una piedra sobre otra, porque no reconociste el momento en que Dios vino a visitarte.» Después de esto, Jesús entró en el templo y comenzó a echar de allí a los que estaban vendiendo, y les dijo: En las Escrituras se dice: “Mi casa será casa de oración”, pero ustedes han hecho de ella una cueva de ladrones. Todos los días Jesús enseñaba en el templo, y los jefes de los sacerdotes, los maestros de la ley y también los jefes del pueblo andaban buscando cómo matarlo.
